How WebAura Started: 5 College Students, a Car Rental Shop, and Our First Client

5 min read

The real origin story of WebAura—how five engineering students turned a casual suggestion to a local car rental owner into their first paid website, and where the team is headed next: from portfolio sites to SaaS like ERP and Restaurant POS.

Short answer: WebAura is a web and software development studio started by five engineering students. It began when a casual suggestion to a local car rental owner—"you should have a website"—turned into our first paying client. This is the honest version of that story, with none of the polish a brand usually adds afterward.

It started with college trips

After every semester ends, our group takes a trip. First semester we didn't go anywhere—I barely knew anyone yet. But between the first and second semester I made a real group of friends, and by the end of the second semester we planned a trip to Vizag.

For every trip we rented vehicles, always from the same local car rental. Over time we became their regulars—daily customers, almost. The one catch: the shop was far from our college. Every time we wanted a car, we had to travel all the way there just to book it.

So one day we said it casually: "You should really have a website for this. It would save people like us the trip."

When a casual idea became our first client

That sentence is where a normal conversation turned into a business. The owner looked at us and said, in effect: "If you can actually build it, give it a try. I'll take it."

Here is the honest part—we said yes before we fully knew how. At the time we didn't know what a domain was. We didn't know what nameservers were, how to connect them, or where to host the thing. We took the risk anyway and figured it out as we went, breaking things and learning our way through every step.

Building and delivering the first website

We sent him a prototype. Our teammate Rohith led the animations and the interface, and that was the moment the client was sold—he was genuinely thrilled with how it moved and felt. Rohith took the design as a personal mission and delivered. The rest of us handled the pieces around it, including the data layer that pulled information from the database.

Then we deployed it, handed it over, and earned the first revenue in our team's history. There are five of us: Santosh, Sriman, Ronith, Rohith, and one more who is going to stay unnamed a little longer.

Where WebAura is today

We are not staying at portfolio sites and "click here to message us on WhatsApp" pages anymore. We have started moving toward real custom SaaS productsERP systems and Restaurant POS / billing software—for businesses that need more than a landing page.

The car rental website was small. But it taught us the entire pipeline a real project needs: design that makes a client feel something, a data layer that actually works, a domain and host wired correctly, and a delivery that someone pays for. Everything we build now stands on what we learned saying yes to that first one.

Who is behind WebAura?

WebAura is a five-member team of engineering students in India. We build websites and custom software for real businesses—starting from where most of our clients start, with one practical problem worth solving.

One of us is writing this anonymously for now. I'm 19, I'm an introvert, and posting anything publicly is genuinely hard for me. So consider this the first step. Once I'm confident enough to stop hiding behind the team name, I'll come back and properly introduce myself.

Until then—stay tuned.
